The T-shirt Scarf: Infinity Style

Last Saturday I wanted to make a few more t-shirt scarf necklaces. I likes the first one I had made, mustard-colored from a medium sized shirt, but I knew it had a few flaws: A) Twice-wrapped it was too tight and once-wrapped it was too long, B) not all of the strings were attached together and made quite a mess, C) it wasn't thick enough.

To solve some of these problems, I chose two shirts of the same color and adult large sized. I also attached all of the strings together with a binding. This time, the project was perfect.

1) Lay out your shirt(s). Cut off the hem on the bottom. From here, cut your shirt into 1/4 inch strips. Its okay if they aren't exact - you can fix this in the stretching process. This would probably be easier with a rotary cutter and cutting board...but all I had was a pair of grimy scissors and my ironing board.

2) P.S. this works best with true t-shirts (the cheaper the better) that don't have seams down the side.

3) You need a helper who will, in the end, not help at all.
4) When you get all of the strips cut, begin stretching. Literally you just pull at the circles until the fabric rolls together. The thinner the strip, the longer the pulled loop. I continuously compared my loops as I stretched because I wanted them all the same length. If you want some variance, have at it.

5) I received more compliments from this project (including are you wearing intestines? from the hubby) than I have on any project in a while. Fun!
